Marshal Points A & B - Pam and Nicki
360m along Teetotal Rd from entry gate.
PDF of Section 2 map HERE
Marshal at Point A:
Guide the first wave of runners (Half with Black bibs) off the main track towards the bush entrance of the DuckDown track.
Guide the second wave of runners (13km with Yellow bibs) off the main track towards the bush entrance of the DuckDown track.
Guide the third wave of runners & walkers (8km with Blue bibs) along the main track - no turn off.
Guide all the runners as they return from the road crossing back along the main track towards the finish.
Note:
Fast 8km runners start returning through here before all the walkers have passed through - so some 2-way traffic from different directions to contend with.
Last year some 8km runners were in the other waves by mistake - keep an eye on bib colours - the bulk of each wave should be the same colour.
Marshal at Point B:
Guide all the runners & walkers safely across the road and advise them to follow the red flags. Make sure no one is parking in the runners path - ask them to move if they are.
Its approx 2.5km to go from here to the finish.
When the final TEC and trail captain has passed through, gather up all the cones, flags and signs etc and place in a pile next to the DoC sign/map or bring back to the finish line.
Notes from John Perrone in this position in 2024:
At Point A direct runners & walkers outward until the last tail-end passes
Guide Wave 1 & 2 (Half & 13k) up to DuckDown.
Guide Wave 3 (8k) along “Skating Pond Loop”
Once last tail-end passes, set-up the arrow at Point A to point towards home & re-arrange tape to guide runners in the homeward direction
Move to Point B to manage all waves crossing Teetotal Rd on their return.
1) One of the 8K runners arrived very early (first arrival). They had set off in the wrong wave apparently. Luckily they looked young enough that I questioned what course they were doing and did not send them up to DuckDown.
2) Important that the marshal checks the runners' bibs.
3) It is important that the A&B Marshals know their travel arrangements ahead of time. Better if they have their own car. I got a ride with Westie out to the Point A, B location but had to rely on the ‘extra’ Marshall who was at the B location for some of the time to get back. He had to leave early and left at short notice so I had to get into his car back to Alpine Lodge and was not able to go back out to A to recover the remaining signs and tape.
4) Needs two Marshals to cover A & B. By the time I got back to B after the last person had passed through A and I had set up the arrow, there were already lots of people crossing the road at B. Luckily the extra person was there for some of the time.
